Our Solution:Immediate implant placement / Teeth in One Day

Background

Before

Unfortunately putting off going to the dentist can result in severe consequences. In Ms P’s case her four top front teeth had literally broken off/rotted away. These needed to be extracted. She wished to avoid having a bridge and cantilever fitted and so providing her jawbone was suitable, we proposed an Immediate Implant Placement, known as Teeth in One Day using Astra Implants.

Treatment

Step 1

Before carrying out the procedure for Immediate Implant Placement, we first had to perform an X-ray and CT-scan examination. CT stands for Computerized Tomography. This scan combines a series of X-ray images taken from different angles around the mouth and uses computer processing to stitch the images together, in order to provide more detailed information on the quality of the jaw. We were then in a good position to assess the quality of Ms P’s jaw and the connecting bone. In her case there was no bone fracture, no infection, and both her bone height and bone width were good. The implantation was therefore deemed to be viable.

Step 2

The operation was performed under local anaesthetic and took about one hour. Immediately afterwards Ms P was taken to the recovery room and her face was cooled with a compress for a short while to keep any swelling to a minimum. She was able to leave us, after about a further hour. Please note that in some Implant Cases patients may suffer slight swelling and bruising, but these symptoms will disappear in a few days.

Step 3

By the next day Ms P was already able to eat and drink normally. Roughly one-week later Ms P returned to the Surbiton Smile Centre ® to have her sutures removed and the implants were further examined. The temporary crowns looked great. Ms P had in fact managed very well, and so six months passed by before the final crowns were made.

End Result

After

Ms P felt like her old self once more. It is virtually impossible to see the difference between the existing teeth and the implants.

In Ms P’s own words:

I am more than happy. I can feel confident again. I am planning to have further treatment on my upper left side. I wanted my crowns to be a bit lighter, so that I could bleach my teeth to match later on............... And now I can rely on my teeth for the rest of my life. If ever something is not quite right a new implant can be inserted.

Dental Implant Frequently Asked Questions

Can an implant ever get lost?

An implant could be lost through an infection or the breaking of the prosthetic crown. Infections are best prevented by thoroughly cleaning at home and having regular professional cleaning by the Dental Hygienist at the Surbiton Smile Centre ®. A replacement implant can generally be placed in the same spot within six weeks.

How much does an implant treatment cost?

A single implant is quite affordable. The dental team at the Surbiton Smile Centre ® will explain the various options and the related costs. You will be able to express requests regarding the material and the treatment.

Is an implant procedure painful?

Generally patients experience no problems, and no further extensive operations are needed. The implants are made from high quality titanium in an elaborate process under the utmost precision conditions, packaged in a clean environment and subsequently sterilized. It is a method that has now been tried and tested a million times.
